We've got a world that swings

I love reading Scripture.  Some of my friends may or may not be religious so forgive me if this post is a bit out of your comfort zone. Per my previous post, I've been kind of stewing over something for quite some time and really letting it get to me. I hate feeling like I've lost control over my own life but that's what happens when you let someone make you feel bad or weak or stupid.

It's a tough thing, really. We're only human, right? We let other people's behaviors affect us because of it. We get grumpy because someone else is. We get happy when someone around us is happy. It's a contagious thing, emotions.  I am nearing a really big milestone and I find myself shocked that I'm still going over these kinds of things. I thought I would be really smart by now and not worrying over these things.

Well, I do. I care what people think of me. I let people take the power. I get grouchy. I lose my temper. I worry. I let my blood pressure skyrocket!

So one of the things I do to get out of the funk is to move to a different kind of funk. Music. My personal favorites are Jazz and old school R&B. I also read Scriptures when I can - the bible really is a handbook for us to use in good times or bad. I keep wishing that I could just pull out the Scriptures like some of my friends do. They amaze me with their memories for a line here or there. I have to go to the Internet frequently to look up a specific saying. I keep thinking I need to figure out a way to memorize them like I do music. So, the trick for me is to listen to the music I love while I read it. Otherwise, the only other way for me to do it is to sit on a beach in Hawaii or Cancun or poolside in some other exotic port of call where I am totally relaxed and focused on being happy and calm.

Jerry as Buddy Love in The Nutty Professor
I pulled up 'The Nutty Professor' (Jerry Lewis edition) and played the scenes where he sings or Les Brown and his Band of Renown are playing. I pulled out the bible and started reading the Book of Matthew. Found this great gem while "We've Got a World That Swings" was playing from the movie.

Good people bring out good things from the good stored in them. -Matthew 12:35

Yup. Keeping myself surrounded by GOOD people. I like having the good stored in me brought out.

Great handbook for life, the Bible. :-)
