Where did the week go?

Gee whiz...... I can't believe 6 days has passed since I last wrote. Work wasn't that busy but I guess time still manages to fly by! Last night and tonight the 'blue moon' sure has been lighting up the night skies. I guess we have two of these moons....heck.....I can't keep up with all this stuff. But I do know the words to the song so I will hum a few bars if requested! Anyway.... the moon does have a bluish tint about it and it sure is a beautiful sight. What else have I done? Well, I went out for sushi at one of the county's best Japanese restaurant, Hakata's. This place rocks! Please, please go there some time. Sugi is a terrific chef! I recommend the baked green mussel appetizers! I also went to the casino w/friends and lost a bundle. I guess it was time for me to lose some $$$ at some point. I've been doing too well and I guess it was my time to bomb! Luckily a few of the friends hit a few jackpots and walked away happy. I a

Hotter than Hades!

Oh my goodness....this weekend was a hot one! Haven't checked to see if we broke any records but I wouldn't be surprised! Friday and Saturday were in the upper 90's for sure....what a day for me to be out in the sun during a parade! The kids at CSTOCK had the show to do plus they were in the Whaling Days Parade . I was fortunate enough to have the greatest volunteers help out with the building of the float and all the kids were enthusiastic despite the high temps. When we walked by the bank out on Silverdale Way the thermometor read 96 degrees at 11:38 am! That's too darn HOT! One of the volunteers discovered a new gadget called a Misty Mate which is a portable water mister (typically large hotels have misters by their pools). Wow....that thing saved our lives! We got our smaller misters at Walgreens but an even cooler one is over at the Sportsmans Warehouse which is a total haven for campers, hunters, gun afficianados and any other outdoor types. It's hard to ke

All's sunny on the western front

It's deathly quiet in the store today!  That's not necessarily a good thing in retail!  I can only clean and reorganize for so long so I decided to sit down and tell everyone out there in blogger land that it's deathly quiet!  I understand it's supposed to get blazing hot this weekend.  I've got a parade to be in so I'm hoping it won't get too hot before noon!  Speaking of parades....doing anything this weekend?  Check out the Whaling Days website  to see what's going on in Silverdale!  Fun for the whole family!

Buffet and $$$

Mark and I went to the Clearwater Casino  last night for the buffet and it was quite yummy!  I'm not normally a 'buffet' type but I wasn't in the mood to cook and Italian food sounded good!  For $9 we got all we could eat and I have to admit their spaghetti and meatballs were excellent although a little spicy.  I think we definitely got our money's worth! Of course, I couldn't pass up playing my favorite slot machine (Neon Nights) but it was absolutely cold as ice to me.  $40 went by the wayside quickly and I was bummed.  On our way out I saw my Las Vegas favorite (Wheel Of Fortune) and said $10 more and Mark was kind enough to sit and play $5 with me.  Somehow, Lady Luck decided to smile upon me because I kept hitting in a little over 5 minutes!  For a little nickel machine I walked out of there $70 up for the night....insert picture of Trina doing a happy jig!

blah

Thank goodness, the temperatures have come down a bit!  It's been way to muggy for my tastes.  I hate that sensation of slowing down when you have way too much to do.  Sleep is difficult at best....especially since the house I've been at (I'm housesitting) is a bit warm.   Now, things are back to 'normal' albeit for a day or so.  I understand that temps are going back up into the nineties by Thursday!  I like dry heat, people!  The humidity is a pain in the butt!   Okay....enough complaining for one day!  :-)

Laughing until you cry

I love a good story....especially one that makes you laugh so hard that you either cry, cry and cough, cry, cough then throw up, etc.   I spent the evening over at my bestest friends' house (Jon and Kimberly) hanging out w/our 'long lost' buddy Chad Rogers catching up on each others' lives.    Jon is one of those guys who is so funny that it's rare to see him really crack himself up to the point of hysteria.  Typically, he's a chuckler and reserves his big laughs for the things that deserve them!  When he does get hysterical, you see this ritual dance of sorts.... you'll see him start to arch his back (he's typically sitting in a chair at first) and twist himself around, then he'll start putting his palms out in the 'get outta here' fashion and then he'll laugh so hard that he can't breathe.   Then the whole routine starts again with the body contorting.  After that happens a few times you'll see him get up and walk around in

I Did It .....My Way!

I'm kind of obsessing on Frank Sinatra a bit.  A local theatre is going to be doing a revue of Frank tunes with a story loosely attached to it.  It features 2 couples (an 'older' and a 'younger' couple...whatever that means!) singing many of his famous songs...some not so famous.   So I'm spending my spare time researching his music a bit and trying to bone up on my jazz singing again.  It's been awhile since I've really done that.  I spend most of my time teaching singing so I don't get to do a lot of that.  It's been fun to rediscover my voice again plus learn (or re-learn in some circumstances) some Ol' Blue Eyes' tunes again.  Whether or not I am lucky enough to be cast in the show, I sure am having fun singing!

Something's Coming

I am so tired...but not sleepy! I hate that but my brain is working a million miles an hour.... Just spent the evening trying to help a good friend and his team cast his production of 'West Side Story.' What amazingly talented people we have in good ol' Kitsap County. That doesn't surprise me in the slightest but everytime I sit through an audition I am blown away. You'd think all these people would be in LA or NYC trying to make it as actors but no....they do this as a hobby! Yowza....I can't wait to direct my next show......if the young talent is as good as this....I can't imagine what it'll be like when I get all those adults! Oh, what show is that, might you ask? I'm doing The Mystery of Edwin Drood which is a musical version of Charles Dickens' last and unfinished novel. Kind of a trip since the audience has to vote on who the killer is....remember that Dickens died before he was able to reveal who the bad guy (or girl) was!

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Connors!

Joe & Betsy Connors boogie down at their wedding!  I attended one of the best parties in my life on Friday night. Joe & Betsy (Osterhaus) Connors put on the most fun wedding and reception! We all had such a good time and there sure was a 'lot of love' in that room. Toast after toast to the happy couple by the crowd attested to that. I feel privileged and honored to be a friend to these two wonderful people. Joe, you're just like a brother and I love you....Betsy, you're an honorary 'brown' girl now and I love you too!

Joe with with his 'best men', Jon & Mark  I love this picture I took of my dear friend Joe at his wedding. Joe asked my honey (the token white guy!) and my other dear friend, Jon to stand up with him at his wedding. I think it's a great picture of 3 wonderful guys!

What a great show!

Cast of 'Follow That Rabbit!'  I'm so proud of my friend Andrea. She's directing a musical version of 'Alice In Wonderland' at CSTOCK , our local theatre. Lots of people I know are involved and they're doing a great job. Come on down and see the most talented kids in Kitsap county if you have a chance!

Get me to the church on time!

Fun times.....my good friends, Joe and Betsy are getting married on Friday! They're doing this in style having the event at a lovely place called Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo. Seems strange but this amazing couple planned this huge event in 8 weeks flat. I am so impressed....I think they should do this for a living! I have been having a great time checking out a flash website called albino blacksheep . It has some of the funniest and most entertaining videos I've ever seen. Check out my personal favorites: the Gollum Rap , Badgers Japanese Pingpong . Incredibly stupid, a waste of time but it's funny stuff, man!

now that's a weighty issue....

I've been pretty fortunate in life. I've definitely been lucky in a lot of ways if I do say so myself. Lots of things come easily to me and as I get older I can actually notice that I'm getting smarter - thank goodness for that! There have only been a few things I've struggled with and even that list has whittled down as I've 'matured.' Without getting too into it (at least today!) the one thing I've really been losing the battle with is my weight. I can't get over the fact that I've thought I was 'fat' for most of my life. I look at pictures of me from 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago and dang it, I looked good! I look at me now.....I'm at least 25 lbs. over the weight I'd like to be. Ironically, when I go to buy clothes I seem to think I'm a size smaller than I actually am. Still living in the past I guess. I just re-joined a gym after a long break. I had managed a 13 lb weight loss in November but then I stopped losing n

mileposts (mile markers)

I got to thinking about the guys (or gals) who actually measured the roads we drive on day in and day out. I can remember being a little kid travelling up I-5 on from California to here and looking for those darned mile markers. I'd get so excited knowing that we only had 150 miles to go, 100, 50, etc., etc. Someone had to actually measure the darned road! Everytime I am on a road trip w/my sweetie I look to see the distances on the handy dandy AAA map. I know this seems like a major rambling but I've been wondering who does all these bizarre jobs. I was reading (re-reading is more accurate) 'Harpo Speaks' by the famed pantomimist, Harpo Marx. He listed people with his favorite bizarre jobs and I think that mile marking has to be one of my favorites. Don't ask me why....I think it has more to do with the memories of my excitement when I was road tripping and a little kid w/my folks back in the 60's and 70's. Remembering those mile markers....I know

after vacation blues

I hate the letdown after you get home from an awesome vacation. It's beautiful and sunny here in the Pac. NW but there was something incredible about being in the desert and looking over the great expanse of Nevada. Yes, I like to gamble a little but the treat was being there and looking at the landscape from my hotel window while sitting in the jacuzzi! Well, that was only part of it. We got to spend some time with one of my best friends and her husband (they're the ones who got us this lovely hotel room at the Monte Carlo affectionately nicknamed the 'porn suite' LOL). They also got us comped tickets to Cirque du Soliel's Mystere which is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Check it out if you ever go to Sin City. Anyway, it's back to work and the normal routine. My honey is at home while I'm 'slaving away' here (actually it's deader than a doornail!). Luckily I only have a 4 day week since two of my good friends are getting marr

Okay....so I finally entered the world of blogging!

Thanks to my good friend Jon I am attempting to put my thoughts out there. ;) I like the idea of being able to rant and/or rave about whatever pops into my mind! So why 'lady luck?' Well, I just got back from Las Vegas...and yes, I gambled and won a little! I also love the song 'Luck be a Lady' from the musical 'Guys and Dolls' (the version sung by Frank Sinatra rocks!) so I figured why not?
